Industrialists discuss the importance of improving communication between the entities and state that it is evident that the country's logistics system has started to work.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_2\">The country has registered value-added exports from Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Panama Pacifico, including Panapark, Marpesca\/Corozal, Albrook, Panexport and Colon, some of the processed products being food, clothing, paper and construction materials, among others.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_3\">Intelcom - an information platform created in 2019 to identify export business opportunities - shows an upward trend in Panamanian value-added exports from the SEZs and Panama Pacifico.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_4\">Intelcom's calculations, based on figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Census of the Comptroller General of the Republic, reveal the evolution of the total exportable supply for the first eight months of the last three years, being $148.8 million, for 2022; $184.5 million, for 2023, and finally, $223.2 million for 2024.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_5\">These goods are FOB (Free On Board, named port of loading), an international commercial term used in the maritime or inland waterway transportation of goods.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Exports leaving the country's special economic and value-added zones totaled $223.2 million through August, surpassing by $40 million the figure reached in 2023. Industrialists discuss the importance of improving communication between the entities and state that it is evident that the country's logistics system has started to work.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><div class=\"paragraph text paragraph p_5\"><p class=\"p_6\">The commercial opportunities offered by Intelcom were recently highlighted by the regent of the MICI, Julio Molt\u00f3, when he participated in the second version of the Food and Beverage Industry Forum, organized by the Union of Industrialists of Panama (SIP), on October 17.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_7\">In his speech, Molt\u00f3 conveyed to the audience the pride and advantages that Intelcom offers. \u201cThe free-to-use platform facilitates access to commercial opportunities that exist with more than 80 countries. This platform translates the texts and annexes of the agreements with digital, truthful and statistical information that connects industrialists with international databases and can help us with imports and exports.\u201d<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_8\">Thanks to the platform - said Molt\u00f3 - they have identified new business opportunities with South Korea. \u201cIn reviewing the agreement with South Korea, we found that Panama gave immediate access to products such as rum, coffee, tomato paste, among others. In addition, with the tool we identified current opportunities to export boneless beef (frozen), tuna steaks, pepper without grinding or pulverizing, and vegetable fats and oils. In the case of Israel, we gained access to agricultural products such as vinegar, cassava and flour; and we also identified opportunities to export boneless beef (frozen), sweet cookies (with sweetener) and condiments,\u201d he explained.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_9\">Molt\u00f3 highlighted the platform, since the agreements and commercial treaties with South Korea and Israel were signed before, when Intelcom did not yet exist, and now it is available to identify export opportunities with a renewed version.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_10\">\u201cRest assured that we will accompany you throughout the process, helping you to evaluate and comply with the necessary requirements; and with the support of the Panamanian foreign service, we will ensure that these requirements do not become obstacles to exporting and that what is agreed in the trade agreements is effectively complied with,\u201d he said.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_11\">Transforming and generating added value to exports is a point supported by the lawyer and expert in foreign trade, business development and public policy design Leroy Sheffer, since 20 years ago Panama's business agenda prioritized export promotion and investment attraction, but today with these agreements in force and consolidated, they allow the country to exploit its other logistical assets that place it on the world map, and to resume the strengthening of the productive platform.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_12\">\u201cThe fact that Panama has exported more than $200 million from the free trade zones means that the country's logistics system has started to work. Before, we saw Panama simply as a transit and transshipment platform, and now, Panama's evolution would mean that the best use would be for us to also generate value through our productive platforms.\u201d<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><\/div><div class=\"intertitle\"><strong>Mercosur, the hinge to boost exports<\/strong><\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div><p class=\"p_13\">The expert also applauded the reactivation of Panama's foreign trade agenda, after more than six or seven years, with the negotiation of Panama's accession as an 'associated state' to the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), since \u201cit helps us to consolidate a relationship that we have had for some time and that our productive sectors are already familiar with\u201d.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_14\">The reason: the country has agreements and business with some of the member countries of this economic bloc.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_15\">\u201cAccession can become an enhancer of the capabilities of the country's logistics platform, but [as a country] we need trade facilitation, we need to integrate rules of origin and insert ourselves into value chains, and that means that Panama should generate added value from its special zones,\u201d Sheffer said.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_16\">\u201cI am very pleased that Brazil and Uruguay, for example, have negotiated agreements with each other, where preferences are guaranteed to finished goods in platforms similar to those that Panama has in free trade zones, special economic zones. So, I feel that Panama will be able to negotiate under solid conditions, which is its productive platform. We consolidated merchandise, now we have to move on to the next stage, which is to generate value from those goods and sell them in those markets,\u201d he said. And, \u201chow do we generate value? By integrating goods and inputs from different countries that can be consolidated in Panama, allowing us to transform goods and sell them in that market. Just as Brazil is a major exporter and the Mercosur economies are major exporters, they are also major consumers, so our productive sectors already know the market,\u201d he said.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_17\">Rosmer Jurado, vice-president of the Panamanian Exporters Association (APEX), moderator of the SIP forum, referred to the industrial strategy employed by Costa Rica, the\u00a0<i>nearshorin<\/i>[The company's objective is to seek shorter and more resilient production chains in other countries], which through technology and medical devices have been leveraged to boost their exports. \u201cToday, Costa Rica exports in a month, what we [Panama] export in a year\u201c... and that is something that has to do with added value,\u201d he alleged.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_18\">Contrary to Jurado's opinion, Sheffer considered that Panama has indeed taken advantage of the\u00a0<i>nearshoring<\/i>through the Colon Free Zone and the free trade zone regime. The pending task \u201cis to update the way in which services are recorded in the national accounts in many of our countries. I disagree with the criterion that Panama has not taken advantage of its platform, since the Colon Free Zone and the special regimes are examples of\u00a0<i>nearshoring,<\/i>\u00a0ya que nuestros principales clientes est\u00e1n en la regi\u00f3n [de la que formamos parte].<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_19\">Meanwhile, the president of APEX, Bianca Mor\u00e1n, described the country's balance of goods, which, taking the export of copper concentrate out of the equation, is in deficit, although due to the boost and incursions in the Caribbean it grew by over 5.2 %.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_20\">Moran refers to August exports which, in general terms, were $42.5 million and a percentage increase of 5.2% over the figure recorded in the eighth month of 2023, which was $817.9 million.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_21\">The businesswoman emphasized that Panama needs a master plan, because each ministry and entity that works with the sector does so in an uncoordinated manner. \u201cWhen you talk to the MIDA (Ministry of Agricultural Development), their system does not talk to those of MiAmbiente (Ministry of Environment), and they do not talk to those of the MICI (Ministry of Commerce and Industries), we do not have a strategy as a country, we do not even have a country brand... with a consistent strategy over the years,\u201d said Mor\u00e1n.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_22\">In response to Mor\u00e1n's criticism, the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade of the MICI, Carlos Hoyos, responded that one of the first things they found when they arrived at the Ministry, in July, was that \u201cinter-institutional communication was a very big challenge and we took action on the matter very quickly. Both ministers and deputy ministers are quite coordinated with respect to communication channels\u201d.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p_23\">On the part of the MICI, for example, he said that through the General Directorate of Investor Services, they requested liaison points in each of the institutions with which investors work, both local and foreign, to facilitate and streamline processes and bureaucratic issues. \u201cIt is very difficult for someone to listen to a government official telling them that this is not with them, because it is not with their institution, when the government groups together many entities and institutions that among them should be in constant proactive communication and resolve\u201c the situations of investors,\u201d said Hoyos, after completing the panel \u201cVisualizing the future of Panama's Foreign Trade Agenda\u201d, of the forum organized by the SIP.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div Los industriales dialogan sobre la importancia de mejorar la comunicaci\u00f3n entre la entidades y aseguran que es evidente que el sistema log\u00edstico del pa\u00eds empez\u00f3 a funcionar. \u00a0 Las oportunidades comerciales que ofrece Intelcom fueron destacadas recientemente por el regente del MICI, Julio Molt\u00f3, cuando particip\u00f3 en la segunda versi\u00f3n del Foro de la Industria de Alimentos y Bebidas, organizado por el Sindicato de Industriales de Panam\u00e1 (SIP), el 17 de octubre. \u00a0 En su discurso, Molt\u00f3 expres\u00f3 ante la audiencia el orgullo y ventajas que ofrece Intelcom. \u201cLa plataforma de uso gratuito facilita el acceso a las oportunidades comerciales que existen con m\u00e1s de 80 pa\u00edses. Esta plataforma traduce los textos y anexos de los acuerdos con informaci\u00f3n digital, veraz y estad\u00edstica que los conecta a ustedes [industriales] con bases de datos internacionales, y que nos pueden ayudar sobre importaciones y exportaciones\u201d. \u00a0 Gracias a la plataforma \u2014dijo Molt\u00f3\u2014 han identificado nuevas oportunidades de negocios con Corea del Sur. \u201cAl revisar el acuerdo con Corea del Sur, encontramos que Panam\u00e1 le dio acceso inmediato a productos como el ron, el caf\u00e9, la pasta de tomate, entre otros. Adem\u00e1s, con la herramienta identificamos oportunidades actuales para exportar carne de res deshuesada (congelada), filetes de at\u00fan, pimienta sin triturar ni pulverizar, y grasas y aceites vegetales. En el caso de Israel, se logr\u00f3 acceso a productos agr\u00edcolas como vinagre, yuca y harina; y tambi\u00e9n identificamos oportunidades para exportar carne deshuesada de bovino (congelada), galletas dulces (con edulcorante) y condimentos\u201d, detall\u00f3. \u00a0 Molt\u00f3 destac\u00f3 la plataforma, ya que los acuerdos y tratados comerciales con Corea del Sur e Israel se dieron antes, cuando Intelcom a\u00fan no exist\u00eda, y ahora est\u00e1 a disposici\u00f3n para identificar oportunidades de exportaci\u00f3n con una versi\u00f3n renovada. \u00a0 \u201cTengan la seguridad de que los acompa\u00f1aremos en todo el proceso, ayud\u00e1ndoles a evaluar y cumplir los requisitos necesarios; y con el apoyo del servicio exterior paname\u00f1o, velaremos porque estos requisitos no se conviertan en obst\u00e1culos para exportar y se cumpla efectivamente con lo pactado en los acuerdos comerciales\u201d, puntualiz\u00f3. \u00a0 El transformar y generar valor agregado a las exportaciones es un punto apoyado por el abogado y experto en comercio exterior, desarrollo de negocios y dise\u00f1o de pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas Leroy Sheffer, ya que hace 20 a\u00f1os la agenda de negocios de Panam\u00e1 priorizaba la promoci\u00f3n de exportaciones y la atracci\u00f3n de inversiones, pero hoy con esos acuerdos vigentes y consolidados, le permiten al pa\u00eds explotar sus otros activos log\u00edsticos que lo colocan en el mapa mundial, y retomar el fortalecimiento de la plataforma productiva. \u00a0 \u201cEl hecho de que Panam\u00e1 haya exportado m\u00e1s de $200 millones desde las zonas francas, quiere decir que el sistema log\u00edstico del pa\u00eds ha empezado a funcionar. Antes ve\u00edamos a Panam\u00e1, simplemente, como una plataforma de tr\u00e1nsito y transbordo, y ahora, la evoluci\u00f3n de Panam\u00e1 significar\u00eda que el mejor aprovechamiento ser\u00eda que tambi\u00e9n generemos valor a trav\u00e9s de nuestras plataformas productivas\u201d. \u00a0 Mercosur, la bisagra para potenciar las exportaciones\u00a0 El experto tambi\u00e9n aplaudi\u00f3 la reactivaci\u00f3n de la agenda comercial de comercio exterior de Panam\u00e1, tras m\u00e1s de seis o siete a\u00f1os, con la negociaci\u00f3n de la adhesi\u00f3n de Panam\u00e1 como \u2018Estado asociado\u2019 al Mercado Com\u00fan del Sur (Mercosur), ya que \u201cnos ayuda a consolidar una relaci\u00f3n que ya tenemos desde hace alg\u00fan tiempo y que ya nuestros sectores productivos la conocen\u201d. \u00a0 La raz\u00f3n: el pa\u00eds cuenta con acuerdos y negocios con algunos de los pa\u00edses miembros de ese bloque econ\u00f3mico. \u00a0 \u201cLa adhesi\u00f3n puede convertirse en un potenciador de las capacidades de la plataforma log\u00edstica del pa\u00eds, pero [como pa\u00eds] necesitamos facilitaci\u00f3n de comercio, necesitamos integraci\u00f3n de reglas de or\u00edgenes e insertarnos en las cadenas de valor, y eso significa que Panam\u00e1 genere valor agregado desde sus zonas especiales\u201d, puntualiz\u00f3 Sheffer. \u00a0 \u201cMe agrada much\u00edsimo que Brasil y Uruguay, por ejemplo, han negociado acuerdos entre s\u00ed, en donde se garantizan preferencias a los bienes terminados en plataformas similares a las que Panam\u00e1 posee en zonas francas, zonas econ\u00f3micas especiales. Entonces, siento que Panam\u00e1 va a poder negociar en condiciones s\u00f3lidas, lo que es su plataforma productiva. Nosotros consolidamos mercanc\u00eda, ahora tenemos que avanzar a la siguiente etapa, que es generar valor de esas mercanc\u00edas y venderlas en esos mercados\u201d, se\u00f1al\u00f3. Los industriales dialogan sobre la importancia de mejorar la comunicaci\u00f3n entre la entidades y aseguran que es evidente que el sistema log\u00edstico del pa\u00eds empez\u00f3 a funcionar. \u00a0 Las oportunidades comerciales que ofrece Intelcom fueron destacadas recientemente por el regente del MICI, Julio Molt\u00f3, cuando particip\u00f3 en la segunda versi\u00f3n del Foro de la Industria de Alimentos y Bebidas, organizado por el Sindicato de Industriales de Panam\u00e1 (SIP), el 17 de octubre. \u00a0 En su discurso, Molt\u00f3 expres\u00f3 ante la audiencia el orgullo y ventajas que ofrece Intelcom. \u201cLa plataforma de uso gratuito facilita el acceso a las oportunidades comerciales que existen con m\u00e1s de 80 pa\u00edses. Esta plataforma traduce los textos y anexos de los acuerdos con informaci\u00f3n digital, veraz y estad\u00edstica que los conecta a ustedes [industriales] con bases de datos internacionales, y que nos pueden ayudar sobre importaciones y exportaciones\u201d. \u00a0 Gracias a la plataforma \u2014dijo Molt\u00f3\u2014 han identificado nuevas oportunidades de negocios con Corea del Sur. \u201cAl revisar el acuerdo con Corea del Sur, encontramos que Panam\u00e1 le dio acceso inmediato a productos como el ron, el caf\u00e9, la pasta de tomate, entre otros. Adem\u00e1s, con la herramienta identificamos oportunidades actuales para exportar carne de res deshuesada (congelada), filetes de at\u00fan, pimienta sin triturar ni pulverizar, y grasas y aceites vegetales. En el caso de Israel, se logr\u00f3 acceso a productos agr\u00edcolas como vinagre, yuca y harina; y tambi\u00e9n identificamos oportunidades para exportar carne deshuesada de bovino (congelada), galletas dulces (con edulcorante) y condimentos\u201d, detall\u00f3. \u00a0 Molt\u00f3 destac\u00f3 la plataforma, ya que los acuerdos y tratados comerciales con Corea del Sur e Israel se dieron antes, cuando Intelcom a\u00fan no exist\u00eda, y ahora est\u00e1 a disposici\u00f3n para identificar oportunidades de exportaci\u00f3n con una versi\u00f3n renovada. \u00a0 \u201cTengan la seguridad de que los acompa\u00f1aremos en todo el proceso, ayud\u00e1ndoles a evaluar y cumplir los requisitos necesarios; y con el apoyo del servicio exterior paname\u00f1o, velaremos porque estos requisitos no se conviertan en obst\u00e1culos para exportar y se cumpla efectivamente con lo pactado en los acuerdos comerciales\u201d, puntualiz\u00f3. \u00a0 El transformar y generar valor agregado a las exportaciones es un punto apoyado por el abogado y experto en comercio exterior, desarrollo de negocios y dise\u00f1o de pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas Leroy Sheffer, ya que hace 20 a\u00f1os la agenda de negocios de Panam\u00e1 priorizaba la promoci\u00f3n de exportaciones y la atracci\u00f3n de inversiones, pero hoy con esos acuerdos vigentes y consolidados, le permiten al pa\u00eds explotar sus otros activos log\u00edsticos que lo colocan en el mapa mundial, y retomar el fortalecimiento de la plataforma productiva. \u00a0 \u201cEl hecho de que Panam\u00e1 haya exportado m\u00e1s de $200 millones desde las zonas francas, quiere decir que el sistema log\u00edstico del pa\u00eds ha empezado a funcionar. Antes ve\u00edamos a Panam\u00e1, simplemente, como una plataforma de tr\u00e1nsito y transbordo, y ahora, la evoluci\u00f3n de Panam\u00e1 significar\u00eda que el mejor aprovechamiento ser\u00eda que tambi\u00e9n generemos valor a trav\u00e9s de nuestras plataformas productivas\u201d. \u00a0 Mercosur, la bisagra para potenciar las exportaciones\u00a0 El experto tambi\u00e9n aplaudi\u00f3 la reactivaci\u00f3n de la agenda comercial de comercio exterior de Panam\u00e1, tras m\u00e1s de seis o siete a\u00f1os, con la negociaci\u00f3n de la adhesi\u00f3n de Panam\u00e1 como \u2018Estado asociado\u2019 al Mercado Com\u00fan del Sur (Mercosur), ya que \u201cnos ayuda a consolidar una relaci\u00f3n que ya tenemos desde hace alg\u00fan tiempo y que ya nuestros sectores productivos la conocen\u201d. \u00a0 La raz\u00f3n: el pa\u00eds cuenta con acuerdos y negocios con algunos de los pa\u00edses miembros de ese bloque econ\u00f3mico. \u00a0 \u201cLa adhesi\u00f3n puede convertirse en un potenciador de las capacidades de la plataforma log\u00edstica del pa\u00eds, pero [como pa\u00eds] necesitamos facilitaci\u00f3n de comercio, necesitamos integraci\u00f3n de reglas de or\u00edgenes e insertarnos en las cadenas de valor, y eso significa que Panam\u00e1 genere valor agregado desde sus zonas especiales\u201d, puntualiz\u00f3 Sheffer. \u00a0 \u201cMe agrada much\u00edsimo que Brasil y Uruguay, por ejemplo, han negociado acuerdos entre s\u00ed, en donde se garantizan preferencias a los bienes terminados en plataformas similares a las que Panam\u00e1 posee en zonas francas, zonas econ\u00f3micas especiales. Entonces, siento que Panam\u00e1 va a poder negociar en condiciones s\u00f3lidas, lo que es su plataforma productiva.
